April 13th - 15th
In celebration of Buddha’s Enlightenment Day, we will engage in a special purification practice emphasizing compassion for all living beings. The retreat involves two days of fasting and prostrations. This is a very powerful retreat for purifying negative karma, pacifying strong delusions, receiving blessings, and increasing our love, compassion and bodhichitta.
Nyungnay Purifying Ritual Practice
This practice is done over two days, with the eight Mahayana precepts being taken at the beginning of each day at 6:30am. It is necessary to take the eight Mahayana precepts each morning in order to engage in the practice. Monday night will be an introduction to this practice.
On the first day, we abstain from all meals apart from a simple, vegetarian lunch. On the second day, we engage in a complete fast, abstaining from all food and drink for twenty-four hours. On both days, we do three sessions of the puja - one first thing in the morning following the eight Mahayana precepts, one before lunch, and one late in the afternoon. Those who are unable to engage in a complete fast can participate in the puja on the second day only (Sunday), provided they take the eight Mahayana precepts that day.
